Burap Tree Skirt

I have seen so many burlap tree skirt but they all have ruffles and I was looking for something more simple.  When I saw this printed burlap at Hobby Lobby I knew that it was going to be perfect for a tree skirt!  The best part is that because I wanted it to look simple that means it was going to be very simple to make! Yay!

The first thing I did was fold it in half horizontally and then again vertically.  Then I measured from the inside corner a 24 inch radius and marked it with an invisible marker. Then I cut on that line through both layers of burlap.

Next I measured 4 inches and marked another line for the center hole and cut that as well.

Then I cut a straight line from the edge to the circle.

Next I flipped it over and used Mod Podge on all the edges to make sure that it will not fray.  I let it dry for about an hour.

Love the simple and beautiful look!  Just what I wanted!

Perfect, just love the tree skirt, felt candy canes and felt stars!
Add some pinecones and a little gold and its my perfect rustic tree!

Paper Snowflakes

I absolutely love these paper snowflakes hanging in my windows and they were soooo easy!  They are so pretty every time  I glance at my windows.  (Although now I feel like I need to clean my windows) Maybe once the weather warms back up for a bit I will be able to get outside.

This Martha Stewart snowflake paper punch , these 3/16 in. glue dots, 4 sheets 12 by 12 white scrapbook paper and white thread are all you need to make these.   To hang them from the windows I used these Command Clear Decorating Hooks.

I turned my punch upside down while punching so I could get it as close as possible and get as many snowflakes as possible out of one sheet of scrapbook paper.  I used 4 pieces and got enough snowflakes for 3 windows.  I punched all the snowflakes out first!

I didn't get pictures of how I attached them but I just put a glue dot on the center of each snowflake and then stuck it to a piece of thread.  Glue dots are awesome.  The last snowflake on each strip might need an extra one on the tip so that it lays flat, you will see what I mean when you hang them.  I just alternated lengths 7-6-5 snowflakes on each strip.

I love them! So wintery and fun!  My daughter likes to look at them too!  I think I might try to make a garland for the tree with these snowflakes too.  You can put paper through the sewing machine which would be very easy too.  I tried with the snowflakes but they were to delicate.  I think I might add a piece of cardstock to the back so I can sew them.  I tried one but haven't made the whole thing yet. Maybe this week!

Christmas Pillows

The other day I decided to use some of the fun fabrics I have to make some Christmas throw pillows for the living room.  I have had this Christmas Tree pillow on my Christmas Pinterest board for a long time so I was ready to give it a go.   I got my inspiration from this Christmas Tree Pillow Tutorial I followed on Inspired Honey Bee.  She actually got her inspiration from a tree pillow on Style Me Pretty.  I didn't follow the tutorial exactly but I do love how they turned out!

I made envelope pillows for both using Martha Stewarts Envelope Pillow Tutorial.
Then I used heat n' bond to attach the JOY and trees.

I did use a gold fabric paint around the letters to help them stand out against the white pillow!
Can't wait to decorate for Christmas so I can use them with the Christmas Afghan I am working on!

Felt Candycanes Ornaments

These DIY felt candy canes turned out so cute!  I am very happy with them.  I wish we had our tree up so that I could hang them on it for pictures already!  I absolutely love the blanket stitch around the outside and the texture that the red stripes give the candy cane. Ohh Christmas I can't wait!

I had to make my own pattern to make these candy canes.  I just kept sketching and erasing until I was happy with a cane shape and then I cut it out so I could use it as a stencil.  I have included my pattern here.  Use the pattern to cut out 2 candy canes for each ornament you want to make.
I use an invisible marker so that the purple disappears after a couple hours.
Next, I cut strips of heat n' bond that were the same width as my candycanes and ironed the strips paper side up to my red felt.
Then I peeled the paper off the felt and cut little strips to be the stripes on the candy cane.  I wasn't to worried about them being perfect because I think it adds character if they are a little off.
Place your stripes where you want them on your top candy cane piece.  Once you have them on your candy cane you can iron them.  Be careful when ironing felt because it melts easily.  You may want to put a thin towel between felt and iron or just go slow and constantly move the iron.

Next you can start your blanket stitch around the candy cane.  If you aren't sure how to do a blanket stitch type it into YouTube.  There are tons of great videos.  Once you are almost all the way around stuff the candy cane with stuffing and then continue the blanket stitch. I didn't add a string because I plan to hook over branches on our Christmas tree.

I am so happy with how these turned out!  I think they are adorable and will go great with my DIY Christmas Felt Stars on our Rustic Christmas tree!  Can't wait to get it up and decorated! Next project felt Christmas Tree Ornaments!  I am in love with these felt ornaments, hope you enjoy! :)

Five on Friday #1 Sparkle

This is my first Five on Friday and I am very excited!  I have been thinking all week about what my 5 favorite things will be and here are my decisions!

{one.} Gold and Glitter
I have had this obsession with gold lately.  I have found some wonderful fabrics at JoAnn's that I have used in multiple crafts but this week I made this fantastic JOY pillow with lots of sparkle and gold!  I just love it!

I plan to use lots of gold this Christmas.  Here is another craft I saw this week that I would like to try from Yellow Bliss Road, one of my favorite sites!

{two.}Elf on the Shelf
We bought our Elf from Target this week.  I can't wait to start after Thanksgiving.  Ellie is still a little young but it will at least be a fun game of hide-and-seek each morning!

{three.} My new winter coat :)
I ordered it at the end of last week and am still waiting for it to arrive!  I am pretty excited.  I love the pretty burgundy color!  I got it from Macy's.

{four.} Anniversary cake and bubbly :)  Two of my favorite things!
My mom ordered us this delicious cake for our anniversary! Yumm.

{five.} Measuring Ruler
My brother made this for us last year and we finally decided on where we waned to hang it and got it up on the wall.  I do love the rustic look of it! Why did it take so long to hang it up?!
